August 2013

Austin, Blake and I made it to Abilene safe and sound.  We traveled from rainy Charlotte to over 100 degree dry heat.  Ugh.  Thankfully we had plenty of fun things to do and people to see!

One of our first stops was the grocery story, of course.  These boys are constantly eating.  Austin and Blake did not mind the trip though, because United Supermarket had such a fun cart!  Austin really reminds me of me in the picture below.  When I am really happy, I get a big, goofy grin on my face and I clasp my hands together.  Sometimes I clap a little bit.  I basically look like Austin.

FAMILY TIME AT WINDY BLUFF

Austin, Blake and Katy created their own outdoor kitchen on the porch.  It was quite the operation and kept them very busy for hours.  Thank you BB for having a special draw for kitchen tools for toddlers!

Austin and Katy

On Sunday afternoon it was time to say goodbye to Lewis, Heidi and Katy.

Blake literally go into the car with Katy and did not want to come back out.

HEADING BACK TO CHARLOTTE
Traveling Tip: Stickers make toddlers and mommies happy.

Pocket at the Children s' Theatre of Charlotte
When I saw a theater production advertised for children aged 0 to 3, I was admittedly worried.  I had no idea how children that young could possibly be expected to be quiet for more than 60 seconds, much less a entire show.  However, I was pleasantly surprised and the set up was wonderful.  Everyone was invited to add to the set afterward as well.  Austin, Blake and I will definitely be back!

One final picture...  Life with toddlers can be a bit of a roller coaster sometimes.  Emotions can change moment by moment.  The picture below is 10 seconds with Austin.  He keeps me on my toes.

July 2013

Every time I step into Harris Teeter with Austin and Blake, I say a silent prayer of Thanksgiving for the very dear (and very intelligent) person who thought of the cookie stand.  This miraculous invention buys me approximately 10 minutes of happiness if Austin and Blake are not thrilled to be at the grocery store.  Thank you Harris Teeter!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

I have always been a big advocate of public libraries and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system is awesome.  All of the branches I have visited are great and they have a number of programs as well.  I have posted about the library and a strorytime before, but I was especially thankful for them over the summer.  Austin and Blake loved them and it was a great way to keep them excited about reading.  The room was always filled with toddlers and many stayed to play in the children's book section afterward.

In this world of iPads, Nooks, etc, I know that "real" books are passe, but I just love them.  Call me old fashioned.  Someone I know once advocated that all the libraries be shutdown and everyone be given an iPad.  Ahh!  That would be a nightmare!

I love my Austin Possum!

The Lazy Dog Days of Summer

 Lunch Date

Like I said before, many toddlers and their parents stay after the storytimes for an impromptu playdate.  Hmmm...  I am going to have to keep an eye on these boys.

I have no idea how this could be comfortable, but Blake does it all the time.

Austin and Blake attended one of the Wee School Summer Programs in July.  Thank you Miss Sandy, Miss Louvenda and Miss Alison for taking such good care of them!

Time to Head Back to the Lone Star State
I rarely speak or think positively about the TSA, but I will give credit where credit is due.  Pure genius!

Charlotte to DFW

Austin and Blake were great and rode the DFW Skylink like big boys.

We flew to Abilene on July 31, so my pictures from our trip will be in my August post.
