November 2013

School Pictures
The photographer at WEE School was nice enough last year and this year to take a picture of Austin and Blake together.  While I love their individual photos, I really love to see them together.  I would also pay good money to know the secret of getting Austin and Blake to look the camera and smile - AT THE SAME TIME!

Lowe's Build and Grow Workshop
Austin and Blake were still a bit young to fully understand how to put their cars together, but they tried!  They looked pretty cute in their aprons too.

Happy Birthday to Me!
Austin and Blake took me to Marble Slab to celebrate my 33rd birthday!  Austin didn't love the cold, but we had a great time.

On November 16, I completed my second marathon.  I have to admit that I have the bug now and am looking forward to running #3.  Any recommendations?

Birthday Party at My Gym
God bless the employee who has to clean out the ball pit.  Can you find Austin and Blake?

St. Jude Give Thanks, Walk. 2013
Austin, Blake and I have participated (they rode and I walked) in this charity walk before, but we did not quite make it to the finish line this time.  I knew that Austin and Blake would reject their stroller at some point, but I wasn't quite ready.  We actually had to quit in the middle.  Austin and Blake were not going to stay in their stroller and they could not make the three mile walk.  Oh well!  We raised money for St. Jude and that was the important thing.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is an incredible place located in Memphis, TN.  It is also the national philanthropy for my sorority, Tri Delta.  I actually had the opportunity to visit a few years ago with a group of Tri Deltas.  It was incredible!

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child
Austin, Blake and I packed our shoe box and dropped it off to be sent to a little boy in another country.  We also included a note and a picture of our family.  This might turn into an annual tradition...

October 2013

Austin and Blake are actually pretty good little shoppers.  However, they do require a reward now and again.

Back to Hunter Farms!
Austin, Blake and I headed back to Hunter Farms to pick out some pumpkins.  Of course we had to hit the hayride first.  Austin and Blake just love petting animals.  I think that Blake wanted to take home one of the baby rabbits, but Major and Blake are not very good at sharing.

Austin and Blake dressed as crayons this year.  However, the hats were a no-go.  Austin wore his hat for a few minutes, but Blake never would.  Maybe they will wear their entire costumes next year...

September 2013

I admit it.  I have slacked off.  It is May and I am just now posting September.  It has been a heck of a semester and a year overall.  However, I am renewing my commitment.  Several important people in my life regularly ask me about this blog.  Nana, this is for you!

Unfortunately, I was unable to get a traditional "First Day of School" picture with Austin and Blake.  So, this one will have to do.  They are back at Carmel Baptist Wee School and absolutely love it.

On September 14, I ran my longest race yet with Austin and Blake.  We competed (and I use that work loosely) in the Hit the Brixx 10K.  Austin and Blake did pretty well and slept through most of the race.  Blake is actually still asleep in the picture below.  Then, after I did all of the work, these two ate all of my pizza!  For those of you who do not live in Charlotte, Brixx is a wonderful pizza restaurant.  There was free pizza after the race.

Tips for Running with a Double Jog Stroller
1. When the lady at race registration says, "there are some slight inclines," this means HILLS.  Any road that is not completely flat is at least a small hill in a stroller.
2. Declines are just a challenging as inclines.
3. Your arms will tire out before your legs.  Try alternating your arms, if possible.
4. Always pack an air pump.  If your tires go flat, you are in big trouble.
5. If you are using a pedometer or Nike+, etc, it must be attached to you and not the stroller.  While not a huge deal, I did learn this the hard way.

Soaking Up the Last Bit of the Summer Sun
I felt really badly for Austin and Blake this summer.  Tubes mean no swimming.  Well, swimming is possible with ear plugs, but those were not an option for Austin and Blake.  The ear plugs barely lasted five seconds in the bathtub, so I could not trust them in a pool.  Thankfully, our neighborhood has a kiddie pool!

Twin boys are not always easy, but these little smiles make it all worth it!

Post Haircut Lunch Date at McAlister's

Ah toddler independence...  I have always wanted to have personal assistants at Target.  Isn't this every woman's dream?  However, I just need Austin and Blake to grow a little bit taller and learn how to steer.

After putting Austin and Blake to bed, I went back to their room to check on them.  This is what I found: lights on and asleep together on the floor.  They are getting so big, it is difficult for me to carry them when they are completely asleep and dead weight.  I cannot believe how much they have grown.

We are all looking at the camera!  It is a miracle!

August 2013

Austin, Blake and I made it to Abilene safe and sound.  We traveled from rainy Charlotte to over 100 degree dry heat.  Ugh.  Thankfully we had plenty of fun things to do and people to see!

One of our first stops was the grocery story, of course.  These boys are constantly eating.  Austin and Blake did not mind the trip though, because United Supermarket had such a fun cart!  Austin really reminds me of me in the picture below.  When I am really happy, I get a big, goofy grin on my face and I clasp my hands together.  Sometimes I clap a little bit.  I basically look like Austin.

Austin, Blake and Katy created their own outdoor kitchen on the porch.  It was quite the operation and kept them very busy for hours.  Thank you BB for having a special draw for kitchen tools for toddlers!

Austin and Katy

On Sunday afternoon it was time to say goodbye to Lewis, Heidi and Katy.

Blake literally go into the car with Katy and did not want to come back out.

Big Austin and Little Austin

Deep Thoughts by Austin...

Fun at Rose Park - Trying to Stay Cool

With ice cream afterward as a reward for being so good.

Traveling Tip: Stickers make toddlers and mommies happy.

Pocket at the Children s' Theatre of Charlotte
When I saw a theater production advertised for children aged 0 to 3, I was admittedly worried.  I had no idea how children that young could possibly be expected to be quiet for more than 60 seconds, much less a entire show.  However, I was pleasantly surprised and the set up was wonderful.  Everyone was invited to add to the set afterward as well.  Austin, Blake and I will definitely be back!

One final picture...  Life with toddlers can be a bit of a roller coaster sometimes.  Emotions can change moment by moment.  The picture below is 10 seconds with Austin.  He keeps me on my toes.
